The International Building Press’s (IBP) summer internship scheme for 2026 has just launched. See Media will once again be recruiting for a PR and Communications intern as part of the programme, having successfully employed last year’s intern permanently as part of our team.
The IBP internship scheme
The IBP is a not-for-profit organisation that brings together journalists and communications professionals with a shared interest in the built environment.
Its internship scheme is open to students and graduates studying journalism or PR, particularly those interested in the housing sector. A key aim of the programme is to improve diversity and inclusion across the industry, encouraging applications from underrepresented groups.
Applicants can choose from eight employers and gain hands-on experience with organisations across the housing sector. Most internships last around four weeks and are paid at either the national living wage or London living wage, depending on location.
The scheme is structured to support interns throughout, with regular check-ins, mentorship and opportunities to build professional networks. It offers a practical route into the industry while helping organisations create space for new voices and perspectives.
See Media’s internship
See Media is one of the eight organisations offering a placement this summer. This will consist of a fully remote internship running for four to eight weeks in July or August.
Paid at the national living wage, the internship isn’t limited to those with housing sector experience. We’re interested in individuals with creativity, determination, organisational skills and enthusiasm to be part of a passionate and supportive team.
Our intern will be supported by a dedicated manager and will gain experience across client accounts, working on real campaigns and projects. A laptop can also be provided if needed.
We’ll be supporting our new intern to develop quality PR experience for our clients in a fully supported environment. They will be encouraged to:
- Research, write and issue press releases
- Manage social media channels and create content
- Use and apply AI (according to our internal AI policy) to support client and internal projects
- Pitch content to journalists and build media relations
- Use media monitoring tools for measurement and reporting
- Contribute to client and team meetings
- Develop an understanding of the UK housing sector
- Generate PR and comms ideas for clients and key campaigns
- Manage PR projects
- Assist in developing content to support See Media’s marketing aims (writing blogs, social media content and contributing to the monthly newsletter)
- Commission photography and additional design work while working with our See Media associates.
Testimony from last year’s intern
Last July, we welcomed Kasturi Mazumder as a PR and Comms intern through the IBP scheme, shortly after she completed her MSc in Media, Culture and Society at the University of Glasgow.
Although new to PR, Kasturi gained invaluable experience throughout the internship. Kasturi then successfully joined See Media permanently as a Junior Account Executive and has been part of the team ever since.
Kasturi said: “I am so grateful to the IBP for connecting me with See Media. I went from being unsure about my career to knowing exactly where I want to grow.
“When I started, I doubted my skills, but the team supported me every step of the way. Everyone encourages questions and helps you overcome challenges.
“From my experience as both an intern and now a Junior Account Executive, I can say anyone joining the team will be welcomed with warmth and surrounded by a genuine passion for PR and communications.”
