This year, we’re taking part in the International Building Press (IBP) Summer Internship Scheme, along with a number of other organisations across the built environment sector. IBP is a not-for-profit organisation that brings together a diverse community of journalists and communication professionals who share a common passion for the built environment. We interviewed many impressive candidates for the See Media internship and after consideration, we offered Kasturi the role. Kasturi will be with us for two months and will be getting involved with a range of campaigns and communications activities to deepen her PR knowledge and skills. Here, Kasturi explains what attracted her to apply for our internship and what she’s looking forward to during her time with us.
Hi, I’m Kasturi. I recently joined See Media as an intern after my master’s in Media, Culture and Society at the University of Glasgow. I’m originally from Guwahati in northeast India and have always been interested in how stories can shape people’s understanding of the world. That’s led me through a range of experiences, from writing news stories for India Today, proofreading books at Penguin Press, subtitling community videos for UNICEF and even working on rural research projects in India.
What drew me to See Media was the chance to be part of a team that’s using communications to make a genuine impact. I didn’t know much about housing PR before starting, but I already love how values-driven the work is. It’s about people, communities and connection – and that’s something I care deeply about. I love See Media’s ethos of ‘PR with purpose’, which perfectly aligns with my own beliefs!
Everyone has been so welcoming and I’m excited to learn as much as I can. I’m especially looking forward to getting involved in creative campaigns and seeing how client relationships are built and maintained in practice. Listening to everyone’s experience and background and having the opportunity to observe how the team approach the work across the company, I am certain that my step into the world of PR & Communications will have the best start.
With my existing skills and experience so far, I’m becoming even more certain that this is definitely the direction I want to head towards in my career and use my abilities for the greater good.
Looking forward to a summer full of learning, great chats and good stories!
