Beyond the day job

At See Media, we’re proud of the work we do in PR and communications for thehousing sector, but the dedication to making a difference isn’t contained to theworkplace.

At See Media, we’re proud of the work we do in PR and communications for the housing sector, but the dedication to making a difference isn’t contained to the workplace.

Our team members’ commitment to giving that extra something is reflected in their activities outside of the ‘office hours’ too. Whether through global initiatives, creative fundraising or working with local clubs, their efforts support a myriad of causes.

Making a difference

Sarah Thomas, See Media’s Senior Director and strategic comms expert, gives hours of her time to voluntary roles in comms and education. She’s a member of the CIPR Midlands Committee, helping organise events and manage the committee’s Facebook page. Before taking a break when her children were small, she also served as treasurer, returning to the committee for this second stint in 2018.

For two decades, Sarah has also been an active volunteer in school organisations. Currently chairing the PTA at the senior school her children attended, she’s also served on committees for a playgroup and scout group, and was a primary school governor for six years, proving Sarah’s dedication to improving education and extracurricular activities for young people.

Business Manager Sally Saunders’ creativity and contributions also extends far beyond the workplace, where she manages See Media’s policies, procedures and systems.

With a passion for crafting for a cause, Sally raises money for charities such as the Royal British Legion, Help for Heroes, and the Salvation Army. Her handmade items—ranging from jewellery and clay creations to themed teddy bears and baked goods—are sold to support these important causes.

For Sally, every piece she creates is a contribution to something bigger and knowing that her work brings joy to others while supporting charities makes her efforts all the more rewarding.

As ex-editor of Inside Housing, Managing Director Stuart Macdonald has spent many years telling the stories of the housing sector and working to support clients to make a difference. Alongside this, Stuart has dedicated almost a decade to World Habitat, an organisation working to end global housing poverty. As Vice Chair, he’s helped identify and promote innovative housing solutions, including through his judging role for the World Habitat Awards. One of his standout experiences was a trip to Yerevan, Armenia, in 2017 to see groundbreaking housing projects firsthand.

Closer to home (Scotland), Stuart is a committee member at his local Largo Cricket Club, leading efforts to convert the club into a charity, develop a new pavilion to celebrate its 40th anniversary and ensure the club remains a thriving part of the community.

Another local sports club being supported in a voluntary capacity by a member of the See Media team is Shropshire Shufflers, Copywriter & Publications Manager Stacey Cooper’s local running club, based in the medieval market town of Shrewsbury.

As a volunteer communications officer and committee member, Stacey keeps over 700 members informed and engaged each month with the club’s monthly e-newsletter. Her work ensures that members stay up to date with events, races, and community news, as well as the club’s fundraising efforts for local and national charities.

Team efforts

Fundraising is something the whole See Media team is no stranger too, having worked together to raise over £1,500 for last year’s chosen charity, Zarach, which supports children in poverty with bed bundles.

Activities to raise money for causes close to their hearts over the years have seen members of the team take on a range of challenges, including ‘desk-cycling’, fell running, The Three Peaks and swimathons, as well as giving up ‘posh coffee’ for a whole year!

To encourage volunteering, each employee also receives two paid volunteer days per year, which they can spend supporting a charity of their choice.

This year, the team is thrilled to already be well on the way to raising £1,500 for The Buddy Bag Foundation, their chosen charity for 2025, which provides essentials to children fleeing domestic violence. You can donate here if you’d like to support the team’s efforts.
