See Media Masterclass: Lessons from a housing cyberattack

Cyberattacks are no longer rare. For most organisations, it is a case of when, not if.

Cyberattacks are no longer rare. For most organisations, it is a case of when, not if.

When an attack happens, the immediate focus is often technical. Systems, containment, investigation. But very quickly the spotlight shifts. Staff want answers. Customers want reassurance. Journalists start asking questions.

At that point, communications is no longer a supporting function. It is central to how the organisation is judged.

In our next online masterclass, we will look at the role communications teams play during a cyber incident. The session combines real experience from a housing sector attack with practical crisis communications advice.

Learning from experience

Jarrod Williams was part of the team at Bromford during its well-publicised cyberattack and was closely involved in the communications response.

He will talk candidly about what it is like to manage messaging while information is still emerging, decisions are being made quickly and scrutiny is high. He will share what worked, what proved difficult and what he would approach differently with hindsight.

Alongside Jarrod, Sarah Thomas, crisis communications and reputation management expert at See Media, will outline what strong communication looks like during a cyber incident. She will cover common mistakes, the importance of pace and clarity, and how organisations can prepare before a crisis hits.

What we will cover

  • The types of cyberattacks organisations are facing today
  • Why reputational impact can outweigh technical disruption
  • What matters most in the first 24 hours
  • Communicating when information is incomplete
  • Managing internal audiences, media and social channels
  • How to maintain trust after the immediate crisis

There will also be time for questions and discussion.

Who should attend

This session is aimed at communications and PR professionals, heads of corporate affairs and senior leaders with responsibility for reputation and risk. It will be particularly relevant for those working in housing, the public sector and regulated environments.

By the end of the session, you will have a clearer sense of your role during a cyber crisis and how to protect trust when pressure is at its highest.
