When I joined The Housing Network as a Marketing Manager, I was looking for more than just a job. I had a varied background – starting in the construction industry in roles focused on social impact and event management, moving into marketing in different sectors. But what I really wanted was a role where I could feel I was making a difference.
My first role in marketing came after a spell working in business support and sustainability at Willmott Dixon, where I discovered a love for storytelling and working with communities. From there, I moved into marketing roles, including one at a manufacturing business, but I always felt the role lacked a greater purpose. I wanted to go home and feel proud of the difference my work was making.
When The Housing Network’s vacancy came up, everything clicked. I had some experience in the housing sector, but I knew I wanted meaning. The opportunity to work with people who’ve faced homelessness, to help shape stories of change and hope, instantly felt like the right fit. In fact, losing our home when I was a child changed how I see things – I know first-hand how important safe, stable housing is. Being part of the team that helps create that feels very special.
In my early weeks at THN, I’ve thrown myself into every part of the role. I’ve re-launched our internal newsletter, begun gathering photography and resident stories, and am already working on the next Social and Environmental Impact Report. I’ve met residents who have rebuilt their lives after homelessness, and those encounters have been deeply moving. They reinforce daily why I chose this sector.
THN has grown quickly, and I’m now responsible for refreshing our marketing collateral, updating processes and helping the business present itself in the most professional, impactful way. It’s a chance to help shape how we look and tell our story moving forward.
Looking ahead, I’m completely committed to the housing sector. This role feels like more than a job – it’s a career with purpose. I can truly say that I’m excited to stay, to learn, to grow and to keep telling stories that matter.
