Turning your work into award-winning stories

Awards aren’t just about shiny trophies and big nights out. Done well, award entries are a powerful communications tool, allowing us to celebrate the people behind projects, raise organisational profiles and create PR opportunities that last long after the judging panel has made their decision.

At See Media, managing and writing award entries for clients (and occasionally ourselves too) has become a growing part of our work across the housing and related sectors over our decade of delivering housing comms.

In 2025, 70% of the award entries we wrote were shortlisted, with over 40% of those going on to win – a reflection of both the quality of our clients’ work and the importance of telling those stories clearly, confidently and with impact – tailored to each award or category and specifically what the judges are asking for.

We’re proud of the results, but even prouder of what they represent: thoughtful projects, strong partnerships and meaningful outcomes for communities.

We know clients can often be wary of spending time and money on awards. Yet, strong award entries and related promotions can be used to clearly explain challenges and contexts, demonstrate measurable impact, bring human stories to life and celebrate people in your communities and organisations making a difference.

Here, weʼve put together a few reasons awards are worth considering and how they can deliver value beyond the ceremony.

PR and profile-raising

Even if your entry doesnʼt win, shortlisting or being commended often creates strong PR opportunities to amplify your work. Award shortlists and success can be repurposed into press releases, social content, case studies and stakeholder communications – and judges’ comments often become valuable endorsements.

Recognition for housing PR stars

Awards give teams and individuals the recognition they deserve. In housing especially, where projects are often complex, long-term and with restricted resources, this recognition can boost morale, support recruitment and retention and help organisations tell a positive story about their culture and impact.

Celebrating communities and tenants

Many housing and regeneration projects rely on residents and communities giving their time, insight and lived experience. Award entries offer a meaningful way to acknowledge that contribution and show how engagement and co-production have shaped better outcomes.

It doesn’t need to break the bank

It’s a common misconception that awards are expensive. In reality, many respected housing awards are free or low-cost – making them an accessible and effective way to showcase great work.

If youʼre convinced about the benefits of awards but lack the time or resources to make it a priority, you can make use of our awards expertise and handy calendar.

Our 2026 awards calendar, updated each quarter as new dates and details become available, covers relevant awards for the housing sector, including sustainability, development, digital projects and community engagement, designed to help you plan your awards activity with confidence.

And of course, if you’ve delivered a project you’re proud of, we’d love to help you tell its story. From identifying the right awards to writing and submitting entries, we can support you at every stage – or simply step in where you need extra capacity or an expert eye, just email hello@see-media.co.uk.
