See Media Stories: Stuart Macdonald

My See Media story is the longest (10 years!), but you’ll be pleased it’s just the best bits here.

My See Media story is the longest (10 years!), but you’ll be pleased it’s just the best bits here. Even choosing these has been tough though, so I went for a top 10. Seemed appropriate…

  1. People: a good friend has a saying that ‘you only ever have good people on loan’ and it is true. I have been fortunate in my time at See Media (and before) to work with many brilliant people. Being part of their careers and having access to their talents, even briefly, is a huge privilege
  2. Starting out: you never forget your first break. Mine came as a student landing a stint on the Business Desk of The Herald in Glasgow. See Media has been fortunate to be able to offer an apprenticeship (Naomi) and work experience to Toluwani and Emma. I don’t know if we were their ‘break’ as such, but we definitely helped start their careers in comms and that makes me proud
  3. Associates: easy to say, but very hard to do without. We are blessed to have our network of amazing Associate designers, production editors, copywriters, web designers, photographers and many more
  4. Client awards: we are lucky to have won 10 awards and been finalists in a further seven. You never forget your first though: take a bow Stonewater and our entry to the PRCA Best Not-for-Profit Campaign 2020 award for the ‘On the Air’ podcast series (still going strong today!)
  5. Team awards: Winning Small PR Consultancy of the Year 2022 for both the PRCA and CIPR in the midlands – all topped off with impromptu karaoke in Birmingham, what could be better?
  6. Chapters:
    1. London – Emily and my bedroom and then a tiny office next to Liverpool Street Station with no external window
    2. Birmingham – our first (and last) proper office. Didn’t last the pandemic – although the office plants did!
    3. Leeds – hybrid to this day
    4. Everywhere (from our home in Fife!)
  7. Chartered: well done to Lydia, Sarah and Sara-Anne who all gained their CIPR Charterships while at See Media
  8. Sally: our powerhouse Business Manager. We simply would be lost without her. Invoice issuing, policy writing, price negotiating, event organising, alphabetising, SharePoint mastering titan.
  9. Our clients: the people who have believed in us and backed our ideas. Without this there wouldn’t be the CT Brief on the Foleon digital publishing platform; the Blunden Prize for public art on Stonewater developments; or the On the Air podcast series – all award-winning, but leaps of faith at the time
  10. Thank you everyone. Here’s to the next 10 years
